Old tires are a wonderful craft material for decorating a garden or playground. Craftsmen make a wide variety of shapes out of them: parrots, giraffes, elephants, swans and much more.

Tire swans: how to make
Tire swans: how to make

It is necessary

  • - old tire;
  • - knife;
  • - jigsaw;
  • - a piece of chalk;
  • - wire;
  • - metal rod;
  • - nippers;
  • - pliers;
  • - white and red paint;
  • - brush.

Instructions

Step 1

To make a swan, you need an old, worn out tire, preferably without a metal cord. This material is much easier to work with and can easily get injured when cutting a tire with a metal cord.

Step 2

Wash and dry the tire thoroughly. Make a layout for the future swan. Divide the tire conditionally into 3 parts. The extreme ones are the details of the wings, in the middle is the swan's neck. The length of the neck from the tip of the beak to the base should be equal to half the circumference of the tire. For example, if you are making a swan from an R13 tire, then the circumference of such a tire is 180 cm, therefore the neck length is 90 cm.

Step 3

Draw the beak and head, they can be made into a triangle or cut out curly. The beak should be about 9 cm long and the head should be 10 cm.

Step 4

Use a knife or chisel to make a hole in the tire so that you can easily insert the jigsaw file through it. Start sawing along the markings at medium speed alternately on one and the other side of the future swan's neck (a distance of about 5 cm). If you cut one side of the neck straight away, it will be very difficult to cut the other, as the rubber will begin to bend. Thus, cut out the beak, head, neck and tail of the swan.

Step 5

Turn the tire over to the wrong side. The work is hard, so it is best to do it with an assistant or use a lever.

Step 6

You can make a swan shape without turning the tire inside out. To do this, make 2 more cuts along the end faces of the tire. The middle part is the neck. The details on the sides of it are the wings. This workpiece does not need to be turned out, you will need to bend the wing parts down.

Step 7

Make brackets from the pieces of wire. Use a knife or drill to make 2 holes at the base of the swan's neck every 20 cm. Fasten the wire brackets. Insert a metal rod into them and twist them over it. Arch the piece to give it the shape of a real swan's neck.

Step 8

Sand all sections thoroughly with coarse sandpaper or a sander. If you make a swan from a tire with a metal cord, then a wire will stick out on the cuts. Cut it off carefully with a grinder.

Step 9

Paint the swan white (or black) and its beak red. Put it in its permanent place. For stability, pour stones in the middle of the structure or install the figure in another tire.
