Experienced fishermen call gudgeon a "training" fish, because it is not difficult to catch it, even for a beginner. However, in order for the bite to be successful, it is necessary to stock up on certain tackles and nozzles, choose the right reservoir and take into account that it is better for the gudgeon to bite either at dawn or before sunset.

Step 1
Decide on a fishing spot. Gudgeon is an unpretentious fish, it is found in rivers with a slight current, and in lakes with gushing underground springs, and in ponds with springs. The easiest way to catch a gudgeon is in the shallows, in places with shallow depth and sandy bottom, where schools of fish gather. If the water is not muddy with silt, shoals of minnows are clearly visible from above due to the mass and crowding of individuals.
Step 2
Choose the right rod. For gudgeon fishing, a lightweight float with a three-hair line is best suited. Make the length of the line shorter than the length of the rod, for example, in a ratio of three to five meters. Take a small hook number 2, 5 or 3, 5. Note that the entire structure should be light enough to hold in your hands for several hours at a time, while constantly tossing.
Step 3
Prepare the bait in advance. Its appearance depends on the season. In summer it can be earthworms, in spring and autumn - maggots and bloodworms. Note that the gudgeon has a large mouth, so it is better to plant a whole worm or its large pieces, and bloodworms - two shots at a time. Place the throat so that the tip of the fish hook is sticking out. If the fish still fell off, do not change the bait: unlike other fish, the minnow goes repeatedly to the same bait. In the midst of biting, you can also use bread crumb.
Step 4
Use groundbait to make fishing more active. You can buy it or make it yourself. The bait mixture, as a rule, consists of boiled and crushed peas, bread crumbs, rice, buckwheat, milk powder. Mix the rubbed components into bait balls and, before fishing, run into places where minnows accumulate to attract his attention. If there is no time for a full-fledged groundbait, crumble bread crumbs into water. And if fishing is supposed to be long, hold the minnows in place of the bite with the help of a feeder lowered to the bottom and stuffed with millet porridge or chopped worms mixed with clay. Make a feeder from a bag with cells suspended on a thick cord.
Step 5
Create an artificial mud if the gudgeon suddenly stops pecking in the midst of fishing. To do this, take a stick with an iron tip or an oar from a boat and for several minutes with active movements disperse the sand at the bottom of the reservoir. Note that this method is unlikely to work at midday, especially in hot weather or before rain. During such periods, take forced breaks in fishing, waiting for the end of the rain and the onset of the evening.
