Step 1
Do not rely entirely on the automation of the camera; his program is based on the need to work out the details of the foreground as much as possible, but you just need the opposite. The camera can slow down the shutter speed or turn on the flash, which will ruin your entire artistic design. Take a few shots in automatic mode to see how the automation will behave, determine what needs to be adjusted manually in the camera, and start experimenting.
Step 2
The setting sun or early morning sun is an excellent source of backlighting. Use it for interesting silhouette shots of nature, buildings, people. Vary the amount of sunlight entering the lens for optimal underexposure of dark areas of the frame. Set your exposure to the sky to get enough clarity on the clouds, and you can also capture silhouettes in the late morning sun. In this case, the shutter speeds will be rather short. Be careful not to let bright rays fall directly into the lens, this can damage the camera sensor. If water is present in your frame, remember that it increases the brightness of the light, and therefore affects the amount of underexposure required.
Step 3
It is very important that the silhouette in the picture is clearly traced and recognizable. A great depth of field will provide good focus on the subject. Focus on the border of your subject and background. Lock the focus, then compose the shot, and only then take the picture.
Step 4
Silhouettes are often shot at slow shutter speeds. Use a tripod and remote shutter release methods (IR, cable) to avoid camera shake and blur.
