The most beautiful and mysterious dance of our time is undoubtedly the Argentine tango. It combines passion and tragedy, a fight between a man and a woman, a confrontation between flame and water. What is the real beauty of this dance and where did it come from?
The history of tango
In the middle of the 19th century, Argentina experienced a great economic recovery, which, however, was hampered by a lack of labor resources. To compensate for it, the country's government introduced various benefits and allowances for emigrants wishing to work - and a stream of young Spaniards, Italians, Poles and Germans poured into Argentina. As a result, the country was overrun with young men who began to practice dancing with each other to impress the local beauties.
The men had to dance with the men, as the ratio of Argentina's female to male population changed dramatically against them.
The essence of male tango came down to one thing - on the one hand, the dancers demonstrated their dancing talents, and on the other, their fight with a partner for the lady's favor. Often the result of such competitions was the death of one of the dancers, who was stabbed by an overly temperamental rival. Tango was not recognized for a long time in decent society, so it was danced in brothels, cafes, gambling establishments and bars.
Other versions of origin
According to one version, tango first appeared among the Spanish Moors, who later passed it on to the gypsy tribes who brought this dance to Argentina. Initially tango was fun, easy and even slightly vulgar. Another version says that the word "tango" is of Japanese origin, and the dance itself was invented by the Japanese living in Cuba. Other enthusiasts argue that tango originated long before the 19th century - it was danced by black slaves, who were thus distracted from the hard work on the plantations.
Tango is a symbiosis of tribes, cultures and nationalities that remains popular in the modern world.
And, finally, another theory of the emergence of tango claims that this dance has a Creole origin and originates from Central Africa. The position in which the tango is danced speaks in favor of this theory - the knees are bent, and the buttocks are slightly set back. Translated from the African "tango" means "a special place" or "meeting place", as well as a kind of ritual drum, to the rhythm of which the tango was danced.
Today, passionate tango is considered the most beautiful dance, since it fully allows you to reveal human instincts and show in dance movements the fullness of the relationship between a man and a woman.
