Colored sand is the usual dye-treated grains of sand. It is used to create paintings, decorate various surfaces, or simply to fill transparent containers. Works made of colored sand will help to give the interior brightness and originality.
It is necessary
- - light-colored sand;
- - jars;
- - water;
- - food coloring;
- - vinegar;
- - oilcloth or paper.
Instructions
Step 1
For painting, it is necessary to use light sand, since only it lends itself to the influence of the dye and a rich, bright color is obtained.
Step 2
Rinse out the sand. Collect the required amount in a deep bowl or bucket, pour water on top and mix thoroughly with your hand or spoon. After the sand has settled, drain off the dirty water. This procedure must be repeated several times until the water is almost transparent.
Step 3
Sift it. To do this, use a sieve with meshes from 1 to 1.5 mm. It will allow to separate large dark grains of sand that cannot be stained from fine light sand. Do not discard any remaining dark sand. You may need it too. For example, to perform a rough texture when creating paintings or decorating objects.
Step 4
Dry fine sand thoroughly. It is most convenient to do this by laying it in a thin layer on an oilcloth or sheets of paper. After the sand is completely dry, start painting it.
Step 5
Pour boiling water into a small jar so that it takes up only half of the container, add a few drops of vinegar to it and add dye. Mix everything and slowly add sand to the resulting solution, stirring gently. Drain until there is no water left in the jar.
Step 6
Stir the sand well again and spread it thinly on the paper to dry. To dry faster, it must be stirred periodically. On average, it will dry for about a day.
Step 7
The brightness and color saturation of the sand when painting depends on the amount of paint. For example, if you want a blue color, add 2 bags of blue paint. If you need a pale blue shade, 0.5 package is enough.
Step 8
Store colored sand in clean jars or ziplock bags. And put it in a dark place.
