Video: NFS Most Wanted - Recompiled Vinyls (512x / 1024x) [OFFICIAL RELEASE] (v1.0.0.400) 2024, November

The "vinyls" installed on the car - an analogue of airbrushing - have long become the hallmark of the NFS series. The nuances of car coloring change with the release of each new part, but this does not in the least deter players from giving the car a bright personality over and over again and trying to add their own graphics options to the product.

It is necessary

  • -BinTex;
  • -Adobe Photoshop.

Instructions

Step 1

Start BinTex. Open the vinyls.bin file located in the Cars directory with the car name using the program. Vinyls are imported individually for each car, so if you want to apply graphics to several cars, you will have to repeat the operation many times. In the list that appears, you can select any file to export from the game (for example, for manual revision) or, on the contrary, add any downloaded or created image that matches the format.

Step 2

To create vinyl by hand, open the exported file using Adobe Photoshop. Answer “No” to any questions related to file parameters. An image will open in front of you, you are free to erase and draw from scratch or simply edit. After completing the work, change the color scheme so that the image is perceived correctly. To do this, open the menu item Image -> Adjustments -> Channel Mixer. In the Output Channel window, select the Red value and reduce the Red value to zero, and Blue, on the contrary, to 100; for the Blue value, you need to do the opposite operation - set Blue to 0, Red to 100.

Step 3

Save the image. In the Photoshop save window, check the Mip Maps checkbox and save the total in RGB (8 bit) format. After that, save the additional mask file by holding down the Shift + Ctrl + U or Alt + Shift + Ctrl + L shortcuts. Finally, the files can be imported into the game.

Step 4

A similar vinyl editing system works in NFS Most Wanted. In this case, the BinTex program is replaced by MWTex, and when saving an image in Adobe Photoshop, the set of parameters changes somewhat: you need to check the boxes opposite Border Color (1 texel), Quick Compress Method and 2D texture. In addition, Mip Maps must be disabled in this case.

Step 5

In other games in the series, the vinyl replacement system is either absent altogether, or is unnecessarily complicated: for example, NFS World is an online project, and all graphics are not stored on the hard disk, but downloaded from the server when the product is launched - changing vinyls is pointless.
