The author's task is to make the reader believe in the main character. Remember, a "hero" is a person with vices, flaws in appearance and inner demons. A couple of tips on how to create a hero so that the reader can compare him with himself, a friend or acquaintance.
Create a character portrait
A character portrait is needed so that you do not forget about all the details of his appearance. If the plot changes by the end of the novel, then you can easily change his appearance. From a blonde, the hero will easily become a brunette.
Describe in advance what your person will look like. Create a document, indicate: height, weight, age, name, appearance and additional information. Each hero has its own page.
Do not download character questionnaires from the Internet. They are long, meaningless and time-consuming.
What can be used to start:
- Appearance description.
- Description of distinctive features, in the style of "the police are looking for them": scars, tattoos, piercings and others.
- Name, height and weight.
- Key information you may forget.
Give your character memories
Write down a few memories of the hero of the past in the document to give him specific character traits. This will also help in the future to catch on some part.
For example, your character loves to read, but was a rogue in his youth. Let him steal books from the store, come up with a funny story about how he stole a book in Read City and was hit with a bag by an old woman.
