The adventure novel genre was born in the middle of the 19th century. There were not so many blank spots on the world map to impede travel, but still enough to excite the imagination of scientists and writers. An adventure or adventure novel was intended to entertain the reader, take him away from boring everyday life into another wonderful world, and teach him to dream.
Today, the novels written by the classics of the adventure genre may seem somewhat naive, but do not forget that many of them, for example, "Treasure Island" by R. L. Stevenson or Captain Grant's Children by Jules Verne were originally published in magazines for the youth.
Despite the fact that today the purely adventure genre has given way to detective, science fiction and fantasy, it does not lose its position as classical literature. Adventure novels were subdivided into novels about pirates, about treasure hunts, about uninhabited islands, about Indians, colonial novels, and novels of a cloak and a sword. Jules Verne, Ryder Haggard, Louis Boussinard, Mein Reed, Robert L. Stevenson wrote about incredible travels and adventures.
Heir from Calcutta
The novel by Robert Shtilmark "The Heir from Calcutta" takes the reader to the end of the era of great geographical discoveries, during the highest domination of England as a colonial empire. The gripping plot tells the story of the pirate captain Bernadito, who captures a ship in the Indian Ocean with the English aristocrat Lord Ryland and his bride. Having abandoned Lord Ryland on a desert island, the pirate under his guise returns to England. These events, which would be more than enough for an entire novel, are only the beginning of the main narrative.
R. Shtilmark wrote his work in the camp, on the construction of the Salekhard-Igarka railway, knowing that the senior contractor was waiting for the completion of the novel in order to kill the writer and appropriate the novel for himself. However, Shtilmark was able to secure the release and publication of his work in the series "Library of Adventures and Science Fiction", after which the novel became a bestseller.

Opening the book, people do not stop dreaming and fantasizing about the unrealizable.
