An elastic thread (or spandex) allows you to make puffy puffs on the sleeves, bodice, neckline and other parts of women's clothing. This is a worthy alternative to hand sewn elastic. The assembled parts look elegant, while the pattern is very simple - it usually consists of rectangular or trapezoidal parts. Working with spandex on a sewing machine, where it is used as a second thread, is somewhat difficult.

It is necessary

  • - a skein of spandex;
  • - sewing machine;
  • - reinforced thread;
  • - needle;
  • - a cut of the main fabric and a flap for training.

Instructions

Step 1

Wind the elastic thread around the bobbin by hand while pulling it tight. Automatic winding can be used.

Step 2

Adjust the spandex tension by tightening or loosening the screw - this will determine the density of the assemblies. Your task is to get the elastic to come out of the cap with little effort (but not too hard or too easy).

Step 3

Thread the upper thread. It must be reinforced so that the finished buffers can withstand heavy loads in the future.

Step 4

Set the maximum stitch length. The stitching will be regular, straight.

Step 5

Leave rather long tails at the beginning of the stitching. Pull the reinforced thread to the wrong side of the fabric and tie it with the spandex in a strong knot. To secure the future assembly, you need to additionally quilt the initial section by hand.

Step 6

Begin to make a neat line from the "face" of the product. The first seam will still be quite weak, so you need to sew a couple of parallel stitches. Proceed in this sequence: sew the assembly line the first time to the end; turn 90 degrees; make a parallel line, etc.

Step 7

Be sure to stretch the fabric with your hands so that no gathering occurs under the machine foot itself!

Step 8

Practice well sewing with elastic thread to find out the necessary compression ratio of the fabric for the gathers. Mark the seam lines on the pattern. This must be the same material from which you are going to sew the puff! Your ruffles may turn out to be more or less tight and fluffy, depending on the spandex, fabric structure, or thread tension. Only after choosing the best option for sewing assemblies, proceed to the implementation of the entire product.

Step 9

It is recommended to perform sewing stitches on separate parts of the garment, and then sew the model. Remember to backtrack at the end of each finished assembly or fix the tails by hand. Then your homemade outfit will not lose shape for a long time.
