Just as people are greeted by their clothes, the book gets noticed because of its interesting cover. To draw a worthy "face" of a work, one must take into account not only its content, but also the format of the future book.
It is necessary
- - paper;
- - pencil;
- - eraser;
- - ruler;
- - paints / pencils.
Instructions
Step 1
Check out the contents of the book. Of course, the cover can be drawn and guided by its brief retelling, but careful reading increases your chances of creating a truly high-quality flawless result.
Step 2
Choose a story that will appear on the cover. Do not use for this the key point of the book - its denouement, so you can spoil all the pleasure of reading, "prompting" the audience how events will develop. You can put on the “face” of the book a picture that conveys the intrigue of the plot, show its mood through an abstract composition or distant associations, display a memorable, characteristic, but not the key detail. You can also depict a repeating motif on the cover, if there is one in the book, or draw your own representation of the main characters.
Step 3
Consider the fact that you need to design not only the front, but also the back cover. Think about what will be on the back: a traditional photo of the author and reviews of the work, or perhaps a drawing "rhyming" with the front cover.
Step 4
Choose two or three basic options. In the process, you can decide which one is better. Create several sketches for each option. Experiment with the composition of the drawing to find out which one is most harmonious and consistent with the content of the book.
Step 5
At this stage, it is imperative to take into account the format of the cover, that is, the proportional ratio of its sides. You also need to provide a place for the name of the author, title, logo of the publisher. This information can be arranged traditionally or try to write it "inside" the picture, make it interact with the rest of the composition.
Step 6
Decide on the style in which the cover will be drawn. It should match the style of the book itself and grab the attention of potential readers. Depending on the style, the material and technique for creating the picture are selected. Try several options and don't be afraid to mix styles and techniques while experimenting.
Step 7
Choose the font that will be used to write the information about the author and the title of the book, as well as the color of the text. It should be in harmony with the main pattern and at the same time not get lost against its background.
Step 8
Combine all the developments in one layout. Make it at a scale of 1: 1 or larger so that you can draw all the details in detail.
