Munchkin is one of the most popular board games. It is a parody of role-playing board games set in the worlds of fantasy and science fiction. Unlike them, the task of the Munchkin players is not to save the world, but to get the maximum number of "clothes" and "set up" rivals.
Game overview
The essence of this board game is a journey of players through the dungeon (expanses of space, waves of the ocean, the streets of a city captured by a zombie - depending on the type of "Munchkin"). The game is played by opening the "Door" card and picking up the "Treasures" ("Clothes") card. The goal of the game is to reach the tenth level. Levels can be obtained by killing monsters, pulling out the corresponding card, or buying them for money.
The last tenth level a Manchkin player can only get for defeating a monster and in no other way.
Beginning of the game
Place the "Door" and "Treasure" cards in the piles, give each player 4 cards from each deck and determine the order of the players' move. Consider the received cards, lay out the cards "hat" ("firebrand"), "boots" ("shoe"), "armor", as well as "object" in front of you, indicating that you put them on the character. Take advantage of their bonuses.
Start your turn by opening the "Door" card. There will certainly be a monster, a trap (curse) or a bonus under it. In case you fall into a trap, read what is written on the card and complete this task. If you have opened a bonus, apply it immediately or leave it until the desired moment.
Having opened the "Door" behind which the monster lurks, engage with it or run away. After entering the battle, add up your level and bonuses with the level of the monster, if the sum of your level and bonuses is more than that of the monster, you defeated it. Get a new level and take the required amount of treasures for the victory.
If you cannot defeat the monster alone, ask for help from other players. To do this, promise them some of the treasures that you will get after the victory.
If you cannot defeat the monster, run away from it. To do this, roll a die for each monster that takes part in the battle. If the die rolls 5 or 6, it is considered that you managed to successfully escape, if the number is less than 5, the monster caught up with you and you will have to accept the battle. If you are unable to defeat him alone, call other players for help. If they agree, the levels and bonuses of both players add up, but only the player who was attacked by the monster gets the new level.
"Set up" players
The rivalry between Manchkin players is an integral part of the game, it allows them to create problems with obtaining new levels and increases your chances of winning. To cause trouble for other Manchkin players, at the beginning of your turn, play the Trap card against one of the players. The injured player will have to undergo all the misfortunes that are described in it.
Another way to prevent neighbors from reaching a new level is to use the “Wandering Beast” card together with the “Monster” card at the moment of the player's fight. This will add another monster to the monster that attacked the Manchkin, and their levels will add up, making it difficult to defeat them. In case of defeat, the player will be subjected to two "lewdness" from the monsters at once.
If on your turn you opened the "Door" and did not find a monster behind it, you can fight the monster from those cards that are in your hands. The rules for fighting this monster do not differ from the usual ones, and a level and treasures are also given for victory.
The last way to hurt players is to demand payment for help in a fight against a monster. To do this, start bargaining with the attacked player in order to get as much treasure as possible in case of victory.
