It is necessary

A new larger pot, universal soil or soil for cacti, drainage or stones, sand, oilcloth for work and a scoop, heavy gloves, a long sturdy stick with a blunt end, a sheet of foam rubber

Instructions

Step 1

Take the cactus pot. Place it on the floor or desk. Check if there is enough space to work. If the cactus is laid on its side, it should fit completely on the work surface.

Step 2

The biggest problem in transplanting a cactus is the presence of needles. It would seem that you can put on tight gloves and take the cactus in your hand so that the needles do not pierce the gloves and do not reach your hand. But this will damage the cactus needles. Not every cactus species tolerates this easily.

Therefore, very carefully put the cactus pot on its side, holding the cactus with gloved hands. Place a sheet of thick foam rubber under the cactus.

Step 3

When the cactus lies on its side, we have the opportunity to work with an earthen clod in a pot. Carefully, with a stick with a blunt end, we begin to pierce the old earthen lump next to the walls of the pot. As a result, you will separate the earthen ball from the pot.

Step 4

Now very gently shake the cactus and the pot separately. If you can see that it is enough to pull the pot slightly and it will be removed from the earthy coma, then remove the pot, holding the cactus. The cactus lies on its side all this time. If the pot has not yet separated from the earthen coma, then we carry out point three until a free run appears.

Step 5

When the pot has separated and the earthen lump is released, you need to carefully remove the old soil and clean the roots as much as possible. This should be done very carefully.

Step 6

Next, take a new pot, prepare drainage or lay out the entire bottom with stones (2-3 cm is enough). This is necessary so that the roots do not rot.

Step 7

Now we are preparing the potting mix. Clean universal soil can burn cactus roots. Therefore, mix it with sand in a ratio of 40% sand / 60% soil. If you have a special soil for cactus, then it is enough to add 10-15% of sand.

Step 8

Sprinkle the drainage of 2-3 cm of the prepared soil. Lift the cactus with the foam rubber, pick it up (through the foam rubber) and place it in the center of the pot. The cactus must be taken carefully so as not to damage it. Sprinkle the roots with prepared soil. We ram the soil. It is not necessary to strongly compact the earthen lump, but it should not be left loose either.

Step 9

Now we water our cactus more abundantly than we usually do. Surely the soil is sinking. The failed parts must be sprinkled with a new portion of soil. Also, be careful not to tilt the cactus.

Step 10

If the cactus has not tilted to the side and the ground has not subsided, then the work is done.
