Like many other bromeliads, guzmania blooms once in a lifetime. After that, numerous babies are formed, and the mother plant dies off. During this period, it is best to carry out a transplant.

Step 1
Choose a low and wide pot for planting guzmania. The root system of all bromeliads is superficial, so the plant cannot master a vessel that is too deep. This can lead to the occurrence of putrefactive processes in the soil.
Step 2
Place a layer of drainage on the bottom. It should be about 1/3 of the height of the pot. Expanded clay, pieces of polystyrene or charcoal can be used as drainage. Coal prevents soil acidification and the occurrence of infections in too moist soil, because guzmania likes abundant watering and high air humidity.
Step 3
Prepare the soil for the plant. Stores sell ready-made soil kits for bromeliads, which include sphagnum, peat, pieces of bark and loose leafy earth. Orchids also have similar soil requirements, so ready-made orchid soil can also be used for guzmania.
Step 4
Charcoal and pine needles can be used as soil additives. They will make the substrate looser.
Step 5
Pour the prepared soil over the drainage in a layer of several centimeters. In the middle, make a slight elevation.
Step 6
Put the guzmania on the hill, straighten the roots. Add soil carefully. Tap the sides of the pot to make the soil fit more tightly.
Step 7
Pour a layer of soil up to the plant's neck and tap the pot lightly on the table several times. The soil will settle and you can add some more. Do not compact the soil with your hands. Guzmania loves light, permeable substrates, so the earth should be loose.
Step 8
Place the plant in a warm, moderately light place. Eliminate drafts. Provide high humidity. To do this, you can put the pot on a pallet with damp expanded clay. Water the planted guzmania with warm, settled water directly into the leaf outlet.
