Step 1
Phalaenopsis orchid transplant should only be carried out if there is a reason for it. For example, the substrate in which the flower is located has lost its useful properties; the pot has become small or the root system of the orchid is damaged due to overdrying or excessive moisture. If this is not an emergency, then the transplant is carried out in the spring. Phalaenopsis should not bloom at the time of transplantation.
Step 2
Before transplanting a phalaenopsis orchid, the substrate must be disinfected. You can fill it with boiling water for 10 minutes or boil it. Then you need to rinse the substrate with hot water and let it dry. It is also necessary to rinse the pot well.
Step 3
To make the orchid easier to come out of the old pot, you need to knead the walls a little. If the flower still does not come out, then in no case should you use force or loosen the phalaenopsis. Better to cut open the old pot.
Step 4
Remove the old substrate and flush the root system. Check the condition of the orchid roots while cleaning. A weak or diseased phalaenopsis orchid will have weak roots. A healthy plant has a dense root system, which will be difficult to clean from the substrate.
Step 5
The roots of the plant should be soaked in warm water for about 20 minutes. If you wish, you can add a little potassium permanganate. Now, without removing the roots from the water, you need to carefully remove the dried bark. If even after soaking a piece of bark does not come off, then it is better to leave it so as not to damage the roots. In the process, it is necessary to periodically change the water.
Step 6
Remove all dry and rotten parts of the roots. It is necessary to remove it up to the part of the root that has a white or green tint. For processing, use the sharpest blade previously treated with alcohol or fire. After the rotten or dry part has been removed, treat the cut with cinnamon, activated charcoal, or garlic solution. It is important that there are no alcohols in the composition.
Step 7
Let the plant dry out. This usually takes about 2-3 hours. From excess moisture, the orchid can subsequently rot. If, after drying, there are wet areas on the phalaenopsis, then remove the water with a cotton swab.
Step 8
Put expanded clay or other drainage, previously disinfected, on the bottom of the pot. Place the flower exactly in the middle of the pot, without trying to correct the natural bend of the stem. When transplanting a phalaenopsis orchid, do not bury the root system too much. Just cover the top of the roots with bark.
Step 9
If the drying of the root system was throughout the night, then after transplanting, pour the orchid from the shower with warm water. If the drying was short, then the watering of the plant should be carried out after three days in winter or every other day in summer.
Step 10
After transplanting, the Phalaenopsis orchid must be kept in a dimly lit place for a week.
