Some scripts are written for years, others for a week. But in each case, this process involves several stages.

Instructions

Step 1

Idea. First you need to say in one phrase what this film will be about? For example, "The Matrix" is a film about how people fight the machines that control the consciousness of mankind. The idea is the grain, the concentrate of the film. Finding a new idea for a movie script is one of the most difficult tasks. It may be a real story, or it may be fiction.

Step 2

Synopsis. A brief retelling of the plot, which takes up a page and a half, treatment - a little more. Synopsis is written in simple phrases. For example, "Neo knew nothing about himself, but Morpheus sent Trinity to contact him, but mysterious agents intervened." There are many examples of synopsis on the Internet, both from little-known authors and from masters.

Step 3

A poem, or a step-by-step plan. The synopsis is "disassembled" into several dozen scenes, in which the action of the film is already described in detail. In the title of the scene, it is important to prescribe nature or interior photography, the place and time of the action. For example, INT. APARTMENT OF PETER. LIVING ROOM. NIGHT. The scene can be dynamic (with chases and fights), it can be a leisurely dialogue of different people, natural phenomena can be shown in it: slow beautiful sunrises, the flight of birds, the movement of animals. A film can have up to 200 episodes for an hour and a half. But on average, an episode lasts about a minute.

Step 4

Dialogues. After the stage-by-stage plan is built and the screenwriter already sees the movie with his inner gaze, it's time to start writing dialogues. They should be as close as possible to oral natural speech. It is in books that a fiction writer can afford multi-page monologues. In a movie, even if the hero has to denounce someone or confess something, the monologue should be rich and dynamic.

Step 5

Cross out and rewrite everything. It's true. A good script is always rewritten five times, and then editors, producers and, of course, directors leave their comments. And sometimes the actors on the set begin to improvise, spontaneously changing the text. And what to do? Cinema is a collective creation. And this is its beauty!
