Some houseplants are so capricious and whimsical that even small changes in their usual environment can negatively affect their flowering. Anyone who has decided to grow a Decembrist at home needs to know the factors that affect its life cycles. Otherwise, you may wonder why the Decembrist does not bloom.
The people call the Decembrist "forest cactus" or "Schlumberg". Its life span is approximately 25 years. However, novice flower growers sometimes face a problem when the Decembrist does not bloom at home. There may be several reasons for this:
- Lack of light. Despite the fact that direct sunlight can destroy the plant, its lack also negatively affects the flowering of the Decembrist.
- Lack of fertilizers. Forest cactus requires constant feeding of various types, depending on the season. Otherwise, it will grow, but will not open its beautiful buds.
- Frequent rearrangements. At home, the Decembrist feels comfortable in one place, he perceives even the usual rotation of the pot around its axis painfully. Moreover, he should not be moved from place to place when he opens his first flowers.
- Improper watering. Schlumberger, as a representative of the cactus family, needs a special watering regime: a lack of moisture or an excess of it will inevitably lead to the destruction of the root system and flower disease.
- No transplant. If the Decembrist is not transplanted for a long period, this will lead to a complete devastation of the soil and weakening of the roots.
- Violation of the root system. Pests, lack of nutrients, the use of concentrated fertilizers do not have the best effect on the roots. A shriveled appearance is a clear signal that there are root problems. In this case, the plant should be transplanted immediately.
The Decembrist at home is able to live for many years, delighting his owners with beautiful flowers of delicate shades. The most important thing is proper regular care.
In the summer season, the plant should be taken out to a balcony or loggia, however, direct sunlight must be prevented. In winter, it needs less moisture than in summer. In September, be prepared to give up feeding and spraying the Decembrist. The amount of water for irrigation must be reduced, and the room temperature, on the contrary, must be reduced. It is during this period that the forest cactus is preparing to bloom. It lasts about a month. Gradually, daily care can be resumed, but without creating stressful situations for the plant.
At the beginning of December, the Schlumberger will open its buds. He can throw off some of them later. The fact is that the Decembrist at home also needs phosphorus and potassium. Additional feeding should solve this problem.
Particular attention should be paid to caring for the Decembrist after flowering. This is important for the further normal development of the plant. You will need to trim all the shoots and prune the cactus. If necessary, it is transplanted into a larger pot. This should stimulate the growth of the Decembrist. The plant itself should be placed in a sufficiently lit place, well watered and constantly fed with nitrogen fertilizers. If flowers appear on only one side, then little light falls on the other half of the plant. The pot can only be turned until the first buds appear.
Careful and careful care will surely lead to the fact that the Decembrist at home will bloom every year.
