Stationery stores offer us a huge selection of all kinds of covers for notebooks, books and notebooks. But usually, these covers are made of polyethylene. They are practical and perfectly protect books and notebooks from external influences, but sometimes you really want something more soulful and elegant! In this case, you can sew such a cover yourself. You will need some fabric, a sewing machine, scissors, imagination and patience.
Instructions
Step 1
Choose the fabric you will be sewing the cover with. You can take one type of fabric for the front side, and another for the wrong side. The fabric should not stretch, otherwise the work will not turn out too neat.
Step 2
Use a ruler to measure the book or notebook you are going to cover. Cut out two pieces that are the same size. One is for the front side, and the other is for the lining. To correctly calculate the dimensions, use the following formulas:
Step 3
The height of the rectangles is equal to the height of the book or notebook + 2 cm for seam allowances + 0.5 cm for fit. The length of the rectangles is equal to twice the width of a book or notebook + spine width + two lapel widths + 0.7 cm for a tight fit + 2 cm for seam allowances.
Step 4
Connect the rectangles to each other with the right sides and secure with pins on the short sides. Trim and iron the seam allowances.
Step 5
Now fold the rectangles, wrong sides together. Iron the folds well - they will be the seams. Bend the width that you left when cutting on the lapel to the front side. Secure with pins.
Step 6
Unfold the lining to the left so it sits over the pins. Now fasten all the parts with pins, and remove the auxiliary pins. Repeat the same procedures for all corners of the future cover.
Step 7
Stitch the cover along the long sides. Leave holes on the underside so that the cover can be turned onto the right side.
Step 8
Cut off the seam allowances, cut the corners obliquely. Sew the short sides. You do not need to leave holes on them.
Step 9
Turn the cover right over and iron all seams with an iron. Carefully hand-sew the hole you left to turn out.
Step 10
If necessary, decorate the cover with some decorative elements - for example, appliqués, embroidery, fabric designs, etc. After completing the work, you can insert a book, notebook or notebook into the cover. The work is over!
