Step 1

In order to start the engine, determine the terminals of the starting and working windings. Use the devices you have for this - a tester, an ohmmeter, etc. Take any lead of the motor and connect to one of the probes of the device. Use the second to find the paired motor lead. Simply connect the probe alternately to each of the three remaining wires. If the device showed the presence of some kind of resistance, write down its value, mark the paired conclusions.

Step 2

It is quite obvious that the remaining two wires are the terminals of the second motor winding. You need to determine which one is the launcher and which one is working. Measure the resistance across the second pair of leads. Compare with the first value. The resistance of the starting winding is always greater than that of the working one. Now you can find a circuit for starting the engine.

Step 3

Another situation is possible. You have a single phase motor. It also has two windings. But the wires are not four, but only three. This suggests that one terminal of each winding is connected to each other inside the motor. In this case, you need to know how the engine worked before - with a starting relay or with capacitors.

Step 4

Measure the resistance between the leads. Three combinations are possible: 1-2, 2-3, 1-3. For example, you have determined that the pair of pins 1-3 has the greatest resistance. It is known that the working winding has the smallest value in comparison with the starting or capacitor winding. Therefore, the common conclusion is 2. It will be connected directly to the network.

Step 5

Determine the pair with the lowest resistance value. In this particular case, this is a combination of 1-2. Pin 1 will also be connected to the network. Wire 3 must be connected to it.

Step 6

The following options are possible: first - the auxiliary winding, which has pin 3, is the starting one. Second, it is a capacitor. In the first case, the connection will take place only during the start-up. In the second, it is carried out in series through a capacitor.
