Step 1
A cape made of valuable fur can be made very short, but for a carnival costume, the length to the heels will be spectacular. Having decided on the length of the cape that you will sew, you will also find out the consumption of fabric - it is equal to two lengths of the product, plus allowances for the seams.
The pattern is very simple, so it is not necessary to draw it first on paper, you can outline it with chalk directly on the fabric, by the way, it is more convenient to fold it in half and fasten it with pins.
Step 2
For the throat, cut a semicircle with a diameter of 15 centimeters, if you make it smaller, strictly along the girth of the neck, then the raincoat will lie ugly on your shoulders - it will pull and hunch over. If there is a margin in length, then you can beautifully gather a cape at the neck by making a drawstring and passing a decorative twisted cord or satin ribbon through it.
It is better to draw a large arc so that the edges of the cloak are even with strokes - hold the tailor's tape measure with one hand at the equal mark, the length of the product plus 15 centimeters. Place this arm with tape at the corner of the folded cut where the neck will be. With your other hand, grasp the edge of the tape and the crayon and slide it over the fabric to create an arc.
Step 3
Cut out the part with sharp scissors. Tuck up all the cuts of the raincoat and stitch them. The gathering at the neck can be done without a drawstring, but then it will be unregulated - gather the fabric onto a living thread and, trying on yourself, fix it in the desired position. In this case, it is convenient to process the edges of the product with an oblique inlay along the entire perimeter of the sections, without tearing off.
For some carnival costumes, for example, the Snow Maiden or the Snow Queen, it is better to trim the edges of the cloak with fluffy fur. For a wedding cape made of rich brocade, trim with a ribbon with swan down stitching is suitable.
Step 4
Cut the vampire cape from two pieces of fabric - black satin on the front side and red satin on the back. Sew these identical parts, matching the right sides, do not forget to leave a hole for turning out. Unscrew the resulting double-sided raincoat, carefully straighten the seam, iron it and sew it, stepping back 2-3 mm from the edge.
