Summer is a wonderful time of the year. Many people go on trips, have picnics, and some prefer to spend all their time at the dacha this season. But what is a summer cottage without a hammock, where you can relax and dream? This is what I suggest you do!

How to make a hammock

It is necessary

  • - coarse calico with a width of 220 cm - 3 m;
  • - nylon halyard with a diameter of 4 mm;
  • - sling 3 cm wide - 5.2 m;
  • - a handle for a shovel;
  • - acrylic dye to match the coarse calico;
  • - a hacksaw for wood;
  • - chisel;
  • - coarse sandpaper;
  • - brush.

Instructions

Step 1

It is necessary to cut out 2 rectangles from coarse calico, the size of which is 150x200 centimeters. The resulting fabric canvases should be folded so that they are right side to each other, then they need to be sewn on 2 short sides. Thus, a kind of ring should turn out. Now turn the stitched together parts outward. Iron the seams carefully so that the allowances are folded to one side. Cut pieces of the desired length from the sling and sew them 5 centimeters from the edge: on the lower canvas - along the entire edge, on the upper one - 35 centimeters from the seam seam. Please note that you do not need to cut the sling. It must be sewn so that it goes from the lower fabric to the upper one. I think, according to the diagram and the image of the hammock, everything will become clear, since there is nothing complicated in this.

Step 2

From the sling, cut another 4 pieces of 70 centimeters each and stitch them where the transition from the bottom to the top of the hammock begins. Thus, the product will be much stronger. Then you need to sheathe the edges of the holes on the crossbar. Fold the hammock blank and fix it in several places with needles. The sling, which is located on the front side, should be sewn so that the sections of the sling of the upper and lower blanks of the workpiece are connected. They need to be sewn along the entire length, but in no case do not forget that you need to leave a 5 centimeters hole for the hammock crossbar.

Step 3

Now sew the lines on the sewing machine 30 centimeters from the edges of the workpiece. Thus, it turned out 2 pockets. From the padding polyester, you need to cut 2 strips, the size of which is 25x125 centimeters. After they are ready, put them in the resulting pockets of the future hammock.

Step 4

After filling with padding polyester, the edges of the canvas must be bent inward by about 2 centimeters and fixed with needles, and then sewn.

Step 5

The hammock padding should be secured so that it does not move. This is very easy to do: just sew 3 securing stitches along the entire length of the padding polyester strips. Please note that the stitches must be at the same distance.

Step 6

Next, you need to make the crossbars. To do this, cut a wooden shovel handle into 2 equal parts. Then, 2 centimeters from each edge of the crossbars, it is necessary to cut out a kind of grooves. In total, there will be 8 of them, that is, 2 on each edge (they should be 1 centimeter apart). After the grooves are ready, take a chisel and make holes for the ropes with it. As soon as you finish this operation, you should process the resulting cavities with sandpaper, paint the crossbars with paint and leave them to dry for 2 hours.

Step 7

It remains to lay the seams 5 centimeters from the edge of the upper canvas on the short sides, thus forming drawstrings, that is, a kind of tunnels for the crossbar. Slip the crossbars into the drawstrings and fix the ropes on them. Hammock "Striped Flight" is ready!
