When creating cartoon drawings, the artist is faced with the need to draw nature in such a way that it looks at the same time quite natural and at the same time does not stand out from the general plan. You can draw the bark of a tree using Photoshop, even if you do not know all the tools to the fullest.

It is necessary

  • - Photoshop program;
  • - a photograph of a tree.

Instructions

Step 1

Create a new document in Photoshop. Select a standard round brush (size 40 px, opacity 40%) and paint the trunk, making many long strokes. At the same time, change the pressure on the nib to get a slight "streak". If necessary, make branches, while the strokes should protrude slightly into the trunk.

Step 2

On the side where the sun will be, make a few strokes with a lighter brush (of the same shade), and on the opposite side darken the trunk a little. At the very edge of the dark side, you can draw the darkest strokes - be guided by photographs of real trees.

Step 3

Create a new layer for the fibers. Using an Opaque 8 px Round Brush, paint the grain of the tree in a diamond mesh. The color in this case needs the darkest of the previously used. Choose optimal transparency with Soft Light Blending Mode.

Step 4

On the same layer, using a 4 px brush, 60% opacity, fill each mesh cell with small shading. Try to have the hatching in different directions in adjacent fibers. Several cracks can be added between the fibers.

Step 5

Add volume with another layer. Take an opaque brush (half the barrel size), light color, with soft edges. Draw a wide line along the light side of the trunk. Choose optimal opacity (70-80%) in Overlay mode.

Step 6

Likewise, on the opposite side of the trunk, add volume to the bark with a dark brush (Blending Mode Multiply, 30-40%).

Step 7

Use a reflex to add magic to your drawing. Create a new layer and with a brush of a bright color (like green) draw some stripes along the fibers in the dark part of the trunk. Set the Blending Mode to Color Dodge, Opacity 40%.

Step 8

Add moss, leaves, grass around, if desired, so that the tree becomes part of the surrounding forest. For this, use brushes of a suitable shape, which can be downloaded from the Internet. Do not forget that on one side of the trunk, all elements should be lighter than on the other.
