Step 1
Determine the level of learning appropriate for the child's age, preference, and fitness. If you (or rather, him) are seriously attracted by the classical guitar, it is better to immediately go to a music school or a private teacher. Without musical notation, the basics of solfeggio and other traditional disciplines, it will be difficult to master scales, etudes, and then whole works. Studying on a commercial basis, the student will be able to study those works and techniques that he likes, and not those that are provided for in the program.
Step 2
If the goal of your child is to accompany yourself when performing famous rock and bard songs, and you yourself have at least some command of the instrument, you can start classes at home. “Try on” a guitar that has been lying on the mezzanine on your child since your student days. Perhaps the neck will be too wide for a child's hand. Then it is worth purchasing an instrument of a comfortable size, not necessarily an expensive one; for the first time, a budgetary guitar made in China will do. To preserve the pads of delicate fingers, choose nylon strings, not metal strings.
Step 3
Set aside an hour a day for classes, preferably at the same time. Start your training by practicing the correct seating position and hand position. If you are afraid to frighten off the interest of the child, do not go into deep theoretical explanations. Go straight to learning chords, fingering and fighting techniques, then in a few weeks he will be able to please you with the performance of the first composition. When the elementary level is passed, take with him the tablature, which will allow you to master the basics of musical notation at the same time.
