Do you want to surprise your family and friends and make a colorful product with your own hands? Papier-mâché is a unique way of obtaining the chosen shape, thanks to which intricate products can be made from scraps of unclaimed paper: cups and plates, fruits and vegetables, masks and a set of puppets for the theater, and much more. Most importantly, the costs in this case are minimal. Not only that, there will be less unnecessary newsprint in the house, which sometimes lasts for years.
It is necessary
Newspapers, white paper, gauze, scissors, glue, brushes, paints
Instructions
Step 1
To make the craft, you will need a plate as a base, a newspaper and thin white paper. Ideal for papier-mâché tracing paper or regular office thin sheets. For work, wallpaper glue or flour paste is suitable.
Step 2
Take a newspaper and make blanks, that is, cut pieces of paper no more than 2x2 cm in size. You will need a lot of such fragments and you need to stock them up right away. It is also permissible to make pieces of the workpiece a little smaller, and it is better not to cut them, but to tear them, then the edges will turn out with fibers and when gluing the next fragment to the form, the borders will not be visible so much. Prepare the same pieces from tracing paper or white paper, given that they will need a little less.
Step 3
To make a papier-mâché product, choose as a basis the plate, the shape of which you want to get. Then take the plate itself, apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly or any cream on it. This is necessary in order for the subsequently obtained paper form to easily come off the base (plate).
Step 4
Begin gluing the fragments on the plate so that each subsequent piece slightly covers the previous one. In order to see that one layer is completely glued, you can apply a little trick. Paste over all even layers with colored newspaper, and odd layers with black and white. In this case, you will not lose your job. Otherwise, due to the variegation of newsprint, it will not be visible - you are already gluing a new layer or an old one.
Step 5
Ideally, the glue is applied to the pieces of paper with a brush, but the reality is different. Therefore, it is better to pour the glue in a saucer, dip each piece of newsprint with one side, glue it to the base and be sure to smooth it with your fingers. Make 8-10 layers in this way and leave to dry for a day. Then continue working, only with pieces of white paper. Depending on the type of paper, there may be 3 to 8 white layers. If there is a concern that the plate may break later, then in the middle of work, lay a layer of gauze, which will give the product additional strength. Then leave the mold to dry for another day.
Step 6
After the layers of paper are dry, carefully remove the resulting shape from the plate. The side that was adjacent to the plate consists of a layer of newspaper pieces. It should also be "hidden" under white blanks. To do this, stick pieces of white paper on it. After drying, carefully cut off the edges, which can then also be pasted over with pieces of white paper. Now color the plate as you like and the "masterpiece" is ready. For a complete set, a cup and teapot can be made to the plate.
