A kayak is a small, often single-seated boat. Today kayaking has become very popular and has become one of the sports. People who are professionally engaged in kayaking know how difficult it is to find a good boat that would meet high safety requirements and at the same time be comfortable to operate. Often kayaks are made by athletes on their own, "for themselves"

It is necessary

  • - jigsaw,
  • - belt sander,
  • - drill or screwdriver,
  • - hairdryer,
  • - scissors,
  • - knife,
  • - pliers.
  • Nippers
  • 4 sheets of plywood (4mm)
  • 20 sq.m. fiberglass t-23
  • Epoxy resin
  • Knitting wire

Instructions

Step 1

Before proceeding with the boat, study its features. The kayak is unusual due to its special aerodynamics, which allows the boat to quickly glide through the water. Craftsmen have the secrets of modeling such a special shape of the bottom, often it is the outer shape that becomes the hallmark of a particular manufacturer. Of course, you will not find a clear description of the structure on the Internet, but you should carefully study a couple of boat drawings in order to understand what exactly is the peculiarity of kayaks. It is advisable to number them so as not to get confused when joining. Transfer the pattern to the plywood sheets and cut them open.

Step 2

Start assembly from the bottom of the kayak. Connect the parts with a wire, avoiding gaps. Make sure that the details do not overlap.

Step 3

Glue the joints with epoxy, dry with a hairdryer. Proceed to the sides. Glue first one, then the second side, nail the rail to stiffen the frame. Glue with epoxy and, after drying, try on to the bottom. Adjust to size and connect the bottom to the dried sides.

Step 4

Glue both the outside and the inside. Sew the bow and stern, then resin, but be sure to install a spacer first. Most likely, it will be difficult to bring your nose and karma together, so it makes sense to use help or take a rope for a tie. The spacer can be nailed in with small nails.

Step 5

The general view of the kayak is already being drawn. Now you need to get rid of unnecessary clips and staples, clean out the seams and connect the bottom, sides, bow and stern together. Make sure the kayak lines are correct, be sure to use a ruler and level.

Step 6

Make the upholstery with support rails along the sides, proceed with the lining of the crossbars. Proceed strictly according to the drawing.

Step 7

Similar to the "shell" you made, open and glue the "capsule" for the rower. For its manufacture, you can use the remains of plywood.

Step 8

Cover the "shell" with the "capsule" and fasten the side seams. Glue the kayak with epoxy and re-level the assembly for accuracy. Finishing work and painting remained.
