Conor McGregor is one of the world's best mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters with many sporting titles and achievements. In addition to successful performances in the ring, the athlete also gained fame for his scandalous antics.
Conor Anthony McGregor was born on July 14, 1988 in Dublin, the capital of Ireland. He grew up in a rather poor family and until the age of 15 he was practically not fond of anything except football. The desire to learn martial arts came to him in high school age, when he was injured in a fight with local bullies. Conor did not have outstanding physical parameters (height - 175 cm, weight - 70 kg), so he decided to go in for kickboxing in order to be able to stand up for himself.
At the age of 16, McGregor began performing in amateur mixed martial arts tournaments, but it was not always possible to win in fights. The guy was still noticed by sponsors, and in 2008 he began a professional career. Things were gradually going uphill: Conor increased the strength and speed of the blow, improved the technique of fighting, which helped him to win several significant victories by quick knockout of his rivals.
McGregor's problems began during fights with experienced professionals who prefer the tactics of moving to the ground. He suffered a major defeat at the hands of the Russian-Lithuanian fighter Artemiy Sitenkov and several other strong rivals. The athlete fell into depression and wanted to end his career, but his love for MMA and his mother's support made him keep moving forward. Also, throughout his sports career, Conor is helped by his wife Dean Devlin, whose wedding took place in 2007. In 2017, the couple had a son, who was given the name Conor Jack.
The Irish fighter began to actively engage in jiu-jitsu, karate and taekwondo, mastered techniques from all kinds of martial arts. Thanks to this, the next two dozen battles ended exclusively in his victory. Conor was nicknamed Notorious for his fierce fighting and quick knockouts that ended too well for opponents. Another unique feature of McGregor was his scandalous behavior before fights: he always seeks to publicly humiliate and offend future rivals, trying to suppress them psychologically.
One of the most famous fights with the participation of Conor McRegor was the fight with Jose Aldou at the UFC-194 show: it took only 13 seconds to knock out an opponent. Also, the whole sports world enthusiastically watched the fight between Macregor and Eddie Alvarez, for the victory in which the Irishman became the world champion at the same time in lightweight and featherweight. But the "Notorious" also had unexpected defeats: in 2016 he lost in a duel with Nate Diaz, and in 2017 - with world boxing champion Floyd Mayweather. The last competition was held by the rules of boxing, and McRegor failed to become a champion in another sport, despite careful preparation and self-confidence.
A recent scandalous event with the participation of Conor McRegor was the attack by him and two dozen associates on the bus carrying the world lightweight champion of MMA Khabib Nurmagomedov and his team. This happened in Brooklyn, where an Irishman and other law enforcement officers began to break the windows of a bus parked with athletes using a shopping cart.
The Irish fighter has long-standing scores with the Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov. The conflict began some time before that, when members of McGregor's team tried to insult Nurmagomedov during his preparation for defending the champion title, which ultimately escalated into a clash with MMA fighter Artem Lobov. For the attack on the bus, Conor McRegor was arrested and will stand trial. Some sports commentators see the conflict as one of Macregor's classic publicity stunts to warm up the public ahead of his hotly anticipated fight with Nurmagomedov.
