Biography
Zhou Jelun (Jay Chou) was born on January 18, 1979 to a family of teachers. Mother, Ye Huimei, taught fine arts at school, and father, Zhou Yaozhong, worked as a research assistant in biomedicine. Jay spent his childhood and adolescence in the small town of Linkou, an administrative-territorial unit of Xinbei (China). After the divorce of his parents, the thirteen-year-old boy withdraws into himself and devotes more and more time to music.
Creative way
At an early age, Jay heard the works of the composer Chopin and was fascinated by the sound and depth of the music. He retains his preference and love for her throughout his life.
Mom drew attention to her son's craving for music and took him to a music school, where he entered the piano course. He was only three years old, but all his free time from studying he listened to compositions that sounded from a small tape recorder. By the third grade, Jay became interested in the theory of music making and enrolled in the second grade in cello. Subsequently, he mastered several more musical instruments, such as harmonica, violin, guitar, pipa, drum and others.
While studying at the Tamkan School, Jay specializes in piano, cello and shows an ability to improvise. After receiving a classical music education, he begins to write original songs and music, which combined two directions: Western modern pop and Chinese folk (country) styles. His manner of performing songs (low voice, diction, Mandarin Chinese) was given the concept of "Zhou style".
The starting point for young Zhou's career was attending the Super New Talent King musical talent show. Taking part in it with a friend, they did not take the places of the winners, but Jay was singled out and remembered by the head of the competition and invited as a composer.
In 2000, Zhou released his first collection of songs, which gained a record number of fans and brought him popularity throughout Asia.
After one of the concerts in 2003, Jay was invited to star in an episode of the film "Double Blade" in his profile as a musician. This was the first contribution to the further piggy bank of the cinema career. Several main roles, joint filming with popular actors and musical data helped to implement the idea and shoot two films according to their scripts.
Jay has been in control of his music since 2005, being the composer, producer and director of all of his albums. During the creative years, a lot of them were released and they sold out in millions of copies.
He is characterized by such professions as: singer, DJ, actor, arranger and screenwriter. I also tried myself as a model for a short period of time. At the agency, he met his future wife Hannah Quinlivan. Having lived for five years, the couple registered a marriage in 2015 and are now raising two children.
His talent, musical literacy and desire for life inspire his compatriots. The melodic and soulful manner of performance wins hearts.
