Step 1
As you know, lodges are made of wood. The material of manufacture is chosen at the request of the hunter. It can be birch, linden, apple. Walnut is considered the best wood for the bed. When choosing a tree for a bed, you need to pay attention to its quality. The blank for the bed must be well dried, without knots and have a longitudinal arrangement of layers in the place of the neck. It is best to take the stock of a good foreign gun - German, Belgian or French - as a model for the future stock.
Step 2
Circle the selected sample of the stock with a pencil on cardboard, cut it out with scissors. Transfer the contours of the cardboard blank to the blank along with the forend.
Step 3
Saw out the stock-stock along the drawn contour with a finishing allowance of 0.5-1.0 cm. On the stock-stock, apply with a pencil the necessary internal grooves for installing the metal of the gun, a cut of the stock under the butt plate, mark the thickness of the stock and all kinds of bends depending on the shape guns.
Step 4
Clamp the deck in a vise by inserting a plywood or wood spacer between the workpiece and the jaws of the vise to avoid crushing the wood of the stock. Using a mallet and a semicircular chisel, process the workpiece, removing all unnecessary from it.
Step 5
With a hacksaw for metal with a wide blade, make an even cut on the bed under the butt pad. Mark the holes for the screws on the saw cut for attaching the butt plate to the stock. Replace the screws and cut out the inner grooves for the metal parts of the gun. Bring them to the required shape using a mallet and a flat chisel, make the necessary holes for the fasteners. Install the metal in place with the mounting screws.
Step 6
Use a rasp or knife to work the wood into the stock. Then sand with sandpaper. First, use a coarse grain, then fine. Sanding should be done along the grain of the wood.
Step 7
Stain and wax the sanded bed. Polish the finished stock with felt or woolen cloth
