In recent years, winter sports have become popular again. Snowboards, cross-country and downhill skis, skates - these goods do not sit in stores for a long time before winter. Older people prefer cross-country skiing, young people buy equipment for more extreme sports. The hardest part is choosing the right ski length. Previously, this problem was solved quite simply, however, now with the development of various styles of skiing, the selection of the size of the ski has become more complicated.

Instructions

Step 1

There are only a few ways to choose the length of your cross-country skis. Proven over the years - stretch your arm up, the ski should be 10 centimeters lower than the resulting height, or add 30-35 centimeters to your own height. There are also many special tables on the Internet with the already calculated sizes of skis and the length of the poles, in accordance with them, the height of 160 - 170 centimeters corresponds to the length of skis 195 - 200 centimeters, and the poles must be at least 130 - 140 centimeters. cross-country ski sizes are suitable only for classic skiing. For skating, the length of the skis should be about 20 centimeters shorter than the usual size. Sticks for skating, on the contrary, are chosen longer than usual by 10 centimeters. So for a height of 160 - 170 centimeters, skis should be no higher than 175 - 185 centimeters, and sticks - 140 - 150 centimeters.

Step 2

When choosing the length of alpine skis, the following nuances should be taken into account: when choosing a size, in addition to the height of the skier himself, his weight and degree of preparedness should also be taken into account. For beginners, it is best to select skis based on the height of the skier minus 20 centimeters; for those who are already confidently skiing, the formula is growth minus 10 centimeters; riders and pro riders select skis equal in length to their height. At the same time, the choice of downhill skiing depends on the preferences and riding style of the rider. So, for example, long skis are suitable for skiing on virgin soil, on natural wide tracks, and short ones due to their maneuverability are preferable on icy uneven tracks.

Step 3

When choosing skis, both cross-country and downhill, their rigidity should be taken into account. The longitudinal stiffness of the skis is checked as follows: put the skis on the floor and stand on them. The second person takes an ordinary sheet of paper and passes it back and forth between the skis and the floor. Ideal stiffness is when the sheet moves freely forward 35-40 centimeters, and backward 10 centimeters. Next, transfer your body weight to one ski and again slide the sheet of paper back and forth, in this case the gap should not exceed 10 centimeters in one direction or the other. Alpine skis also have torsional stiffness, which is responsible for the fact that the skis do not wrap up when moving. (the higher the number, the better). Unfortunately, it is impossible to check torsional stiffness in any way. The ratio "price-quality" rather works here, i.e. the more expensive the skis, the better.
