When working with binding materials, it is necessary to be able to cut the paper smoothly and with high quality so that the finished pack is neat and symmetrical. To cut paper that will later be bound, use a special metal ruler or corner, as well as a bookbinder sharpened on the machine. Cut the paper only on a flat surface, and be careful not to injure yourself with a sharp knife.

Instructions

Step 1

Place the stack of paper on a smooth surface, such as a piece of sanded plywood, and then use a ruler to draw a line with a very sharp pencil to cut the paper. Align the metal corner with this line and press it with your left fingers wide apart against the paper as hard as possible.

Step 2

Take the knife in your right hand, grasp the handle with four fingers, and place your index finger on the upper edge of the blade. Place the knife at an angle of 30-40 degrees in relation to the surface of the table, and then slide it towards you so that the left edge of the blade is pressed against the corner shelf and does not move to the side.

Step 3

In order to cut a thick stack of paper, you need to draw a knife several times along the edge of the ruler, while continuing to hold it tightly in the place where it was originally, so that all the sheets are cut at the same level.

Step 4

In one motion with a knife, you cut several sheets. The thinner the paper, the more sheets you can cut at one time. When cutting the paper, do not press too hard on the knife - this degrades the quality of the finished work and wastes your energy.

Step 5

Cut the paper with the edge of the knife, which is 15-20 mm from the tip of the blade. In order to work out the technique of correctly cutting paper, start learning on a small stack, the thickness of which does not exceed 4-5 mm.

Step 6

Then add paper to the stack so that its thickness reaches 12-15 mm. Gradually, you will learn to cut evenly and neatly into thicker stacks of paper.
