Making a template

If you need to make several of the same fish, cut them out according to the template. To do this, you will need:

- paper;

- cardboard;

- a sharp knife with an oblique blade;

- ballpoint pen or pencil;

- a small plaque.

Draw a fish on the cardboard. Apply an openwork pattern. Regardless of which pattern you choose, there should be cardboard jumpers between the openwork elements. By the way, a pattern is suitable for embroidery with a cut satin stitch or cutwork. It is best to cut the template with a sharp, oblique knife. For some types of cardboard, scissors are also suitable. Make sure the edges of the hole are smooth and free from jaggies.

You can find a suitable picture and trace along the contour, at the first stage you only need a silhouette.

Cut out the fish

You need a single fish for the applique. Cutting it out is pretty simple. Place the template on the front of the paper, trace and cut out the holes. It is better to cut thin paper, of course, with scissors. If the fish is small, you can take manicure ones with curved ends. In this case, it is better to trace the template with a pencil. To make a Christmas tree decoration, fold a piece of paper in half. In this case, it doesn't matter on which side of the sheet to trace the template. The fish can be folded or glued. In the first case, the halves should close where the upper fin passes; in the second, you can cut the fish completely. Cut out the toy and attach a loop to the top fin if you are going to hang the toy on the tree.

A fish for a Christmas tree or for a panel can be made of colored paper with an adhesive layer.

Symmetrical fish without pattern

A fish with a simple openwork pattern can be cut out without any template. Cut a rectangle out of the paper. Fold it in half with the long sides aligned. Draw with a pencil the silhouette of a "half fish" - a triangle of the tail, half oval of the body and head. Make long cuts on the side where the fold is. They can be in the form of stripes with straight sides, denticles, arcs, etc. The technique is about the same as when cutting out the familiar paper snowflakes. Make sure that the cuts do not reach the outer contour. The fish turns out to be double.

Fish with fins

To cut an openwork fish with fins without a template, fold a sheet of paper in half lengthwise. Peel back the strips along the long cuts. Outline the silhouette of the fish, taking into account the fact that from the side of the abdomen it will have two identical fins. For them, you need to leave pieces from the paper strip approximately in the middle of the abdomen. Cut the pattern in the same way as in the previous method.
