The question of registering the name of their group arises not only for novice musicians. There is no unequivocal answer to it, since the legislation of the Russian Federation does not provide for a solution to this problem. But still, there are ways to address these issues.

Step 1
If the entire musical group consists of the authors of the songs performed, then draw up and sign a written agreement on the implementation of joint creative activities under the name that will be chosen by all members of the group or project. Thanks to this agreement, you can set the date of the team creation. This means that when another group appears under the same name, it will be much easier to find out which group appeared earlier and who has more rights to assign this particular name.
Step 2
Give the group your name. Since it is inscribed in your identity document, it will be much easier for you to prove the uniqueness and special right to this particular group name if the need arises.
Step 3
Change your own name to the name of the group. Any person after he turns sixteen has every right to change his name in the passport. It turns out that the principle is the same - conditionally, your own passport will be the registration document of your group.
Step 4
Register the group name as a trademark. On the basis of the Law of the Russian Federation "On Trademarks, Service Marks and Appellations of Origin of Goods", any verbal or pictorial designations can be registered as a trademark. Therefore, in addition to the name of the group itself, you can also register the project logo as a trademark. But, it should be remembered that registration of a trademark is possible only for a legal entity.
Step 5
To protect the name of the group, use the copyright rules that prohibit third parties from using partially or completely the works of the authors for their own purposes. Many authors call their bands the name of the first released album, or vice versa. Thus, with the title of your first album protected by copyright law, only you can be entitled to use it as the name of your band.
