Step 1
First, decide which type of diagram you like best: linear (when drawing up using abbreviations) or graphical (the picture is explained by the icons). If you are at a loss with a choice, try to knit something according to both schemes, and then you will definitely understand what is easier for you to work with: with text or with a picture.
Step 2
Let's say you liked an image and want to embody it in a knitted fabric. First of all, redraw the drawing on paper in a cage (preferably in millimeter paper), and then start drawing up a graphic diagram. In this case, it will be easier to indicate colors with signs than describe them in words. Then, if you want, you can always make a detailed job description.
Step 3
Take a square grid as a base. Each row of cells will correspond to the row knitted, the number of which indicate on the side. Usually, graphic images of the pattern begin to be drawn from right to left and from bottom to top, even rows correspond to the seamy side, odd rows correspond to the front. One square equals one loop. The icon in it will show you how to knit this loop. Rapport (repetition of the same motive) indicate with vertical lines. In linear schemes, it is indicated by asterisks, for example, purl 2 * rapport * purl 2.
Step 4
Tie the sample according to the scheme you have invented. This will help you decide which yarn and tool to use for your future product. As soon as you pick them up, proceed to the last stage of work on drawing up the diagram: measuring and recording the density of knitting, drawing a drawing of parts, etc. Then, having corrected all the shortcomings, start knitting the whole product.
