Virtual travel is the hobbyhorse of all artists. Let's make another such trip today - this time to the south of France, to a picturesque town located a few kilometers north of Nice. And, plunging into the "colorful" atmosphere of life there, we will try to convey it in our picture.
It is necessary
A sheet of thick yellow-brown paper measuring 30 * 40 cm, a carpenter's pencil, brushes, acrylic paints, oil pastels, black Indian ink, a palette and a vessel with water
Instructions
Step 1
Sketch. Take a carpenter's pencil and sketch out the main elements of the composition. Do not try to fix the exact contours of objects or small details, in order to avoid the temptation to start filling them with paint in the future, from this the image will inevitably lose its freshness.
Step 2
Write the sky. Prepare a mixture of three acrylic paints - bright blue, ultramarine and white. Dilute the mixture to a creamy consistency and use a # 4 round brush to paint the sky with smooth strokes. Paint the clouds with pure white - with a little carmine added where the clouds are heavily sunlit.
Step 3
Indicate buildings. Show the outlines of the walls and roofs with scarlet golden yellow oil pastels.
Step 4
Select white spots. Use lilac and lemon yellow oil pastels to paint the foliage of the big palm, applying paints in swift zigzag strokes that convey the swaying of the foliage in the breeze. Add lilac, light blue and white pastels to the individual windows of the houses. Shade with ultramarine the surface of the dark hill on the right. Squinting down the highlights of the composition and paint them with thick strokes of white oil pastels.
Step 5
Show individual shadows. Burnt umber oil pastels deepen dark linear elements (windows, outlines of walls and roofs, etc.).
Step 6
Build an image. Model the dark clouds with gray oil pastels. Add new details to the landscape with small pastel strokes, making sure that the color does not conflict with the overall color scheme. So, for example, you can add new terracotta roofs to the left with burnt sienna, and show palm trees with Prussian greenery. But don't overdo it in detail. Remember that in this composition we deliberately discard small details, striving to convey the general joyful atmosphere of a summer day.
Step 7
Write down the shadows. Refine the shape of the church towers with various shades of gray acrylic mixed with carmine, ultramarine and white. Using a liquid pink wash of carmine, yellow cadmium, ultramarine, and white, depict the midday shadows cast by surrounding objects on the wall of the pink building.
