Previously, every family celebrated Easter with a feast where the main decoration of the table was eggs painted in red. However, now more and more housewives, especially if there are children in the family, prefer to paint eggs in more original colors. Some prefer to use purchased dyes for work, others trust exclusively folk recipes.
It is necessary
- - red cabbage;
- - eggs in a white shell;
- - water.
Instructions
Step 1
Only eggs in a white shell are suitable for painting, since the protruding natural dye, in our case, cabbage, is unable to block other colors. First of all, boil the eggs: put them in a container with cold water, add 1/2 tablespoon of salt to the water and put on fire. After boiling the water, continue to cook the eggs for 12-15 minutes, then drain the water and leave the eggs to cool.
Step 2
Take a medium head of cabbage (use red cabbage), cut it into 4-5 cm cubes, place in a saucepan and cover with water so that all the cabbage is under water. Put the container on fire, bring its contents to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and continue cooking for another 30 minutes. During this time, the cabbage will give all its color and the water will acquire a tone suitable for further work.
Step 3
After the specified time, remove the pan from the heat, strain its composition. Place the cooled eggs in a glass or ceramic container (you can, of course, use dishes made of any other materials, just remember that the prepared composition can stain these containers) and fill them with prepared bright burgundy liquid. It is worth noting that you can use both a hot composition and a cold one, since in both cases, the color of the shell will be exactly the same.
Step 4
Leave the eggs in this liquid for 3-9 hours. Remember that to give the shell a light bluish tint, it is enough to hold the eggs for 3-4 hours, and for a more intense color - 8-9 hours.
Step 5
Remove the colored eggs from the dye composition, wipe them off and leave for a few minutes so that the shell is completely dry. It is worth noting that a wet shell has a slight pinkish tint, but a completely dry one loses this feature, so if you want to keep the pink tint, then wipe the still wet shell with a napkin dipped in a small amount of vegetable oil.
