Embroidery with silk or other ribbons is a well-known type of needlework for a long time, but popularity came to it after the advent of modern materials for work. The use of this technique allows you to get volumetric embroidery in a short time, which will look spectacular on any product - from an ordinary wall picture to wardrobe items.
It is necessary
- - fabric for embroidery (most often in this capacity, a canvas for cross-stitching with a large mesh size is used - Aida 14 or 11 or similar plain weave fabrics);
- - cotton or silk ribbons of different widths;
- - needles for embroidery with ribbons;
- - embroidery hoop;
- - scissors.
Instructions
Step 1
It is necessary to properly process the tape before starting work - it must be cut from the reel at an acute angle. Then the tape is tucked into the eyelet at the corners, leaving a tail of 5 cm, fix the tape in the needle, piercing its tail at a distance of 7 cm from the end, and stretch the long tail of the tape, fixing it in the needle. The length of the tape should not be more than 30 cm - so it will not get tangled and wrinkled.
Step 2
A flat knot is used to fix the tape on the wrong side of the embroidery. It is done by folding the edges of the tape twice and piercing the center of the folded edge. The tape is pulled through the fold and tightened.
Step 3
The main element of embroidery is a straight stitch, for which the needle is brought out to the front side of the embroidery, a stitch of the desired length is made and the needle is brought out to the wrong side of the work. When performing this element, make sure that the tape does not twist, and adjust its tension when sewing a stitch.
Step 4
To perform a voluminous French knot, the needle and the tape are brought out to the front side of the work, they are wrapped around the needle with a tape 3-4 times and they try to bring the needle to the wrong side, without loosening the made turns of the tape - the implementation of this element will require some training.
Step 5
A straight stitch with a curl begins to be performed in the same way as a regular straight stitch, then the tape is pressed against the canvas with the right side and a needle is injected into the center of the tape at a distance of the length of the stitch. The needle is held on the wrong side, trying not to unfold the curl.
Step 6
A curved straight stitch requires an additional needle with a floss of the same color to be sewn. It is injected into the tape at a distance of the required stitch length and a basting stitch is made. The needle with the ribbon is brought out to the wrong side of the work and the angle between the two stitches is adjusted according to the embroidery pattern.
Step 7
The rest of the ribbon embroidery elements are based on the use of these simplest stitches and their combinations, so mastering this type of needlework is not difficult.
