Instructions

Step 1

To sew a pillow cover, decide on the choice of fabric and pattern. If you are using an old fabric for the cover, wash it off and iron it with an iron. Wet and smooth the new fabric too so that it shrinks before you sew the covers.

Step 2

Measure the dimensions of the pillow. It is more convenient to sew covers with a zipper, so that it is easier to remove them for washing or replacement. It is better to sew the zipper from the back, where it will be invisible. Make a pattern on the fabric: the front of the cover will be equal to the size of the pillow +1.5 cm on each side of the seam allowance. Since the zipper will be sewn into the back of the cover, add 1.5 cm more zipper allowances on the long side of the pattern. Thus, the back will turn out to be 3 cm wider than the front side. Mark the cutting line with a small or thin remnant.

Step 3

Cut the fabric into 2 pieces. Bend the back in half and cut along the fold line. Overcast the edges. Fold the two halves right-side in and stitch the centerline from the edges just enough to match the length of the zipper with the unsewn. Smooth the seams with an iron, sew a zipper into the incision, overcast the edges of the front. Fold both canvases with the right side inward and stitch along the perimeter, stepping back from the edges by 1.5 cm. Turn the cover inside out and iron the seams with an iron.

Step 4

The pillow can be sewn independently, of any shape and size. Use a special thick fabric for the pillowcase. As a filler, you can use foam rubber or synthetic winterizer. For a children's room, the pillow can be made in a round shape, and the cover can be sewn from fur fabric. As a decoration, cut two ovals from fur, fold them seamy side out, stitch in a semicircle. Turn it over your face and sew into the upper part of the cover - you get ears. The cover can be decorated with an applique that will depict the face of a kitten or a bear cub.
