Books are often included in still lifes of various subjects. The expanded volume can be the center of the composition or positioned in the background. Regardless of how important this subject is in the picture, you need to be extremely careful in order to correctly convey the shape of the book. After all, its outlines are visually distorted depending on how to unfold the book and from what point to look at it.
It is necessary
- - paper;
- - pencil;
- - eraser;
- - colored materials.
Instructions
Step 1
A book will look the most organically if one bottom corner is closer to the viewer than the other. However, depending on the idea, you can fit the book into the composition as you see fit. It should be a balanced composition in combination with other objects. If you want to depict only the book, do not put it in the center of the "frame", move it to the side opposite to the falling shadow.
Step 2
Mark the boundaries of the subject in the drawing. Measure using the sighting method its height, length, width and transfer these proportions to the paper, marking them with light strokes.
Step 3
Then work through each of the parts of the book separately. Its cover is in two halves. The one closer to you will look longer. Parallel to the lines of the covers, draw lines to represent the thickness of the cardboard. Draw a spine between the back and front covers. When the book is opened, it takes on a semicircular shape.
Step 4
Draw blocks of sheets of an open book. If closer to the cover they can lie flat, then the top ones usually bend, mark them with smooth curved lines. Pay attention to the fact that the borders of the sheets do not reach the outer borders of the cover, and the inner ones protrude, "hanging" over the spine. Tilt the side lines of the block towards the center.
Step 5
Mark the captal with a thin strip at the place where the sheets are glued. This is a "protection" woven from threads, which protects the spine from being erased. Step 2 to 3 mm inward from the edges of the cover and draw parallel lines for endpapers, which are usually slightly smaller than the cover.
Step 6
Color in the drawing. If you plan to do this with transparent paint - watercolor or thinned acrylic - first loosen the pencil lines with an eraser. If you are drawing an old, shabby book, make the lines of the pages uneven, wavy.
Step 7
First, color in the visible part of the cover and the spine. Then fill in the color of the page. Even if they are white, mark with spots partial shade, your own shadow, reflexes from nearby objects and draperies. It is not necessary to draw the text on paper clearly, it is enough to show it with a gray or brown (if the sheets of the book have turned yellow) shade. Add a shadow between the open pages - it gets stronger as you get closer to the spine. Draw the shadow falling from the book and the darkening between the captal and the spine.
