What your cushion will be depends on your preference: it can be a patchwork pillow, a velvet classic pillow, a pillow in the shape of a heart, a cat or any animal you love. The classic square pillow is the easiest and fastest to make.
Instructions
Step 1
Choose a thick, preferably cotton fabric for the base of the pillow itself. Cut out two squares of the required size from it. Cushions are usually small, about 30 x 30 centimeters, but you can choose any other size. Remember to leave seam allowances of about 1-1.5 centimeters on each side.
Step 2
Bring both squares right side inward and sew on all sides, leaving about 10 centimeters unstitched on one side. Turn out the workpiece, fill the pillow with foam rubber, padding polyester or holofiber. The last two options are more preferable, as they are evenly distributed and make the pillow softer than when filled with foam. Pay special attention to the corners when stuffing your pillow. Sew the left hole with a blind stitch.
Step 3
Find fabric for your pillowcase. Do not strive for a perfect match between the pillow and the furniture upholstery, a decorative pillow looks more impressive when it stands out and attracts the eye. Ideally, choose a contrasting color, and in terms of structure, let the pillow harmonize with the sofa. The fabric can be almost any, the main thing is not too thin. Of course, the structure of the fabric should match your idea: a velvet pillow will give the room a more refined and elegant style, a linen or tapestry pillow will give more comfort.
Step 4
Cut out a pillowcase from the fabric of your choice. To do this, cut out two squares the same size as the pillow, plus 1 centimeter on three sides, and leave about three centimeters on the remaining side. Fold over the 3 cm and join the two squares along this last side. Sew a zipper between them, preferably a hidden one.
Step 5
Then join the squares right side inward and stitch one to the other on the three remaining sides. Turn out, insert the pillow into the pillowcase.
