The shape of the sofa cushion can be round, square, rectangular, heart-shaped or star-shaped. Before working on a pattern, think about how you are going to decorate the finished product.

Step 1
Use the patchwork technique. To do this, collect various pieces of fabric. Choose a material that is close in texture and density. If this is your first patchwork job, create a simple pattern from square and triangular patches. Use the master classes that can be found on the Internet. Remember that it is better to work with pre-washed and ironed fabrics, since they will not shrink unevenly during washing and the product will not deform.
Step 2
Embroider a square or rectangular pattern on the canvas according to the pattern. Images of flowers, nature, geometric patterns, scenes from life are well suited for pillows. Decorate the embroidery in a kind of mat made of the same fabric as the back of the pillow. Choose a fabric that matches the color of the thread you are using when embroidering.
Step 3
Create an exquisite pillow from quality, expensive satin and ribbon. Sew a solid color pillowcase, slide over an appropriate size pillow. Wrap it with organza tape a tone or two darker than the pillowcase material in the middle. Gently fasten the edges of the tape at the place where the zipper is inserted. Sew a small flower from the same organza in the middle of the pillow. You will get a laconic and stylish living room decoration.
Step 4
Cut out birch or oak leaves from soft suede in two to three shades of brown. Place them on a pillowcase pattern, and pin them down with safety pins. Place stitches on the sewing machine, symbolizing the branches of the tree and passing through the middle of each leaf. Choose threads that contrast in color with the base fabric. Sew the pillowcase, sew a zipper on the back or in the side seam.
Step 5
Draw a pencil outline on the fabric that will be the front of the pillow. Hoop the fabric. Sew the areas separated by the line entirely with beads of the same shade. Change the position of the hoop to avoid overtightening the fabric. Use geometric designs, simplified flower or leaf designs, or Frei Wille designs for embroidery motifs.
