Toga is the property of a full-fledged citizen of Ancient Rome. Foreigners and slaves were strictly forbidden to wear it. By the color of the toga, it was possible to find out what class a person belongs to and whether he has any merits to society. The victorious generals could afford a special luxury. Their purple robes were embroidered with golden palm branches. Before sewing a toga for a play or role-playing game, think about what social position your character occupies.

Step 1
Select the fabric of the desired color. The outer clothing of the ancient Romans could be white, cream, purple, blue, or striped. The senators had wide stripes, the horsemen had narrow stripes. In most cases, togas were made of fine wool. But for role play, you can make it out of several sheets. This is even better, since the width of the double sheet is roughly the size you need.
Step 2
Take measurements. You need to know the distance from your neck to the floor and your waist circumference. Label them as L1 and L2. It is hardly worth making a pattern for such a large product, but calculations are necessary. Divide L1 by 7. Of course, this can be done in the form of a long strip without any cuts or fillets. But in classic Roman clothing, the short edges are either beveled at the corners or rounded. Calculate the width of the desired piece of fabric. It equals approximately 2.1L1. If you observe accuracy, then H = 2L1 + 5 / 56L1.
Step 3
Calculate the total length. It is Ltot = L1 + 3 / 7L1. Sew the existing cuts into one piece. It is better to use a linen seam. It will not be noticeable, since the toga fits in folds.
Step 4
Calculate the length of the top straight edge and the bevels of the top corners. Lup = 6 / 7L1. Accordingly, it will be necessary to retreat from each edge to a distance (Ltot-Lup) / 2. Calculate the bevels of the corners along the short cut. Divide L1 by 28 and multiply by 27. Call this line segment L3. Place L3 on top at both edges. Connect the bevel points with straight lines.
Step 5
Calculate the bottom corners. The length of the straight hem is 5 / 7L1. In order to determine the length of the bevels, subtract the bottom from the total length and divide by 2. To determine the height of the bevels, subtract the value L3 from the total width of the fabric and also divide the resulting measurement by 2. Set this measurement up from the top of both lower corners. Connect the beveled points with straight lines. Cut off all corners.
Step 6
Overlock the edges. You can sew on the edge of the tape to match, contrasting or gold. The toga turns out to be rather heavy, so it is better to wear it with an assistant.
Step 7
For role-playing games, the classic cut is not necessary. Find a piece of fabric that is 6 m long and about 1.8 m wide. Wool of this width is almost never on sale, so sew a few sheets together. In this case, short cuts can be left straight. In the same way as in the first case, overlock the edges where there is no border.
Step 8
The clothes are ready, now you need to put them on correctly. Under the toga, the ancient Romans wore a tunic. She is a long shirt. For noble citizens, the tunic reached the knee. Centurions had short ones, and long ones were considered women's clothing. In fact, a tunic is a bag with a slit for the head. It can also be sewn from a sheet by sewing on the sides and processing the neckline.
Step 9
Put on a toga. Divide the piece of fabric into about 3 pieces widthwise, grab 1/3 from the top and throw it over your left shoulder, covering your arm with folds. At the same time, the edge of the clothing hangs down almost to the floor, but does not touch it. Ask an assistant to pull the fabric over your back and pass it under your right hand. At the level of the thigh, it should lie in folds again. Pull the fabric over your chest and sling over your left shoulder again.
