From ready-made patterns, you can sew a lot of different models of clothes, but it often happens that the pattern that you purchased or copied from a magazine does not fit your size. What to do in this case in order to sew the thing you like? Any pattern can be adjusted to fit the shape by increasing or decreasing its size. This is not so difficult to do - for this you must strictly follow the lines of the pattern, reducing it.

Instructions

Step 1

To adjust the pattern of the product, while maintaining its proportionality and balance, adjust the pattern along the main fit lines. In the place where you want to reduce the pattern, make a neat fold in the paper and pin it with pins.

Step 2

The width of the fold should correspond to the amount you measured by which the pattern should be shortened in this area.

Step 3

To reduce the width of each specific part, divide the total reduction by four. Thus, you get the values by which you need to reduce the front, back, left and right parts of the front and back.

Step 4

Make longitudinal folds on the pattern and pin them. Place a sheet of paper under the reduced and pinned pattern and copy all the lines to restore the lines of the seams.

Step 5

In this way, you can create pleats at the back and front of the bodice, reducing the width of the product at the shoulders, chest and waist. Shorten the bodice along the line between the waistline and the bust line. Reduce the height of the armhole using a strip of paper glued to the bottom of the armhole.

Step 6

Draw a new line for the bottom of the armhole. You can also reduce the width of the sleeve along the entire length, its length, and clarify the seam lines. In the case when you need to fit the pattern of the skirt, you can reduce the length and width of the front and back of the skirt. All patterns have a small margin of space for freedom of fitting the product, so take this point into account when reducing the pattern.
