The vast majority of modern role-playing projects are based on a system of perks and skills, the so-called "skills". In the most thought-out and elaborated projects, the correct distribution of skills is a whole art, which is simply impossible to master in a single passage.

Step 1

Skills are unlocked as your character's level grows. At the same time, with each level-up, the player is not given a specific skill, but only a few points for distribution, which can be spent on any desired skill. The number of points depends only on the game: in some projects, points are given out several pieces per level, in others, on the contrary, the player is encouraged only occasionally.

Step 2

As a rule, skills have a tree-like structure: skills are connected by branches, and in order to get a new one, you must first develop all the previous ones. It is very important whether there is an opportunity in the game to "reset" all skill points and distribute them in a new way: in the absence of it, you will have to determine the only development course from the very beginning and strictly adhere to it.

Step 3

Be methodical when learning skills. As a rule, it is impossible to acquire all the skills: it would be much more correct to develop a single skill to perfection. So, in Diablo II the character "Necromancer" has a dozen opportunities to summon golems, skeletons and just use spells - but you are unlikely to meet a player who can do everything. In most cases, the user chooses a single profile (for example, creating golems) and spends skill points in this branch throughout the game.

Step 4

In some role-playing systems (such as the Elder Scrolls and Gothic), not all skills can be unlocked with a simple waste of points. The player needs, first of all, to find a character who will help to open the skill (see "Find a magician to learn how to conjure"), and only after that - to develop it.

Step 5

In addition, skills can be "raised" through equipment and items. In the above Diablo and its "clones" (Dungeon Siege, Titan Quest) there are a lot of items that have unique properties - for example, in the "properties" of the next helmet, you can see the inscription "Only for the Witch. Adds three points to the Fireball skill. " You can buy them in stores or by picking them up from especially strong enemies.
