Light graffiti is a special type of photography where bright glowing lines are superimposed over the image of a stationary object. They are obtained by moving light sources while the camera operates in infinite exposure mode.
Instructions
Step 1
Make sure your digital camera supports infinite exposure mode. If not, get another one. It can also be used, the main thing is that this mode is available in it. Note that this mode is almost always absent on cell phones with cameras.
Step 2
Buy two accessories for your camera - a good tripod and a cable for the remote release of the lens. The best option would be a wireless remote control for the device.
Step 3
Take your camera and accessories to a location where any freeway is clearly visible. Please note that the shooting location should never be a bridge, and other bridges should not be visible from it. This is due to the fact that shooting bridges, as well as using them as sites for shooting, is prohibited by law.
Step 4
For the shooting time, choose one in which it has already begun to get dark, but complete darkness has not yet come. It is desirable, however, that the street lights are already on - they will give the picture additional expressiveness.
Step 5
Take multiple shots at a shutter speed of several seconds. Try to use different aperture values each time (if the camera supports infinite shutter speed, then it also has a function for manual adjustment of this parameter). Take all shots with a tripod.
Step 6
Take another series of pictures without using a tripod. During the exposure, describe various geometric shapes with the device itself: squares, triangles, circles.
Step 7
Pay attention to the fact that in each of the photos you will see a kind of "rivers" of headlights and taillights of cars. In the second series, you will find the same lines (of the appropriate shape) from the light of the street lamps. But on them the surrounding objects will not be clearly visible. Lantern lines can be intermittent because they are powered by alternating current.
Step 8
You can also move any light source along a predetermined contour, from a mobile phone to a sparkler candle, in front of the lens of a stationary camera, which is included in the infinite exposure mode.
Step 9
At home, transfer your images to your computer to be able to view them with the best quality, select the most expressive of them. Do not delete unsuccessful pictures - suddenly in the future you will create unusual collages based on them.
