In the days of the USSR, they knew how to cook wallpaper paste in almost every family. In addition to the cheapness of the product, this was also explained by the shortage of goods: there were often no other wallpaper adhesives on sale. It would seem that these days, with an abundance of commodities, this skill is no longer useful to anyone. However, besides its cheapness, the paste has one more great advantage: it is not necessary to clean the walls before using it. It works great even if the walls are covered with old oil paint.
It is necessary
- - flour;
- - water;
- - cooking container;
- - container for the finished paste;
- - gauze.
Instructions
Step 1
Take flour, it can be absolutely any - rye or wheat. It is best to use buckets or large pots as containers. Gauze is needed in order to strain the flour paste you cooked. If this is not done, then lumps will probably remain in it, including quite large ones. This will interfere with your work.
Step 2
Calculate roughly how much paste you need. It depends on the area of the walls that you are going to wallpaper. Based on this, select containers of a suitable volume.
Step 3
Take a bucket or saucepan, fill with water, boil. Turn off the heat and begin to slowly sprinkle flour into the water. Add in small amounts, stirring well immediately. Your task is to prevent the formation of large lumps, which will be difficult to get rid of. Add flour gradually, stirring the contents thoroughly. If the initial volume of water was about two-thirds of the calculated volume of the paste, then the final product will be similar in consistency to pancake dough. Put the resulting adhesive on low heat for 15 minutes or heat in a water bath.
Step 4
After that, cool the cooked paste. When it gets warm (no more than 40 degrees), carefully pour it through a layer of cheesecloth into another container. Any lumps that have not been stirred will remain on the gauze. Your paste is ready to eat. Remember that the adhesive must be free of grains of sand and other debris.
Step 5
You can apply the paste to the backs of the wallpaper and walls with either a brush or a roller, and it is best to smooth the glued stripes with pieces of clean gauze folded several times. Drops of paste, accidentally falling on the front side of the wallpaper, are easily removed without leaving any traces.
