Soldering is the process of creating mechanical or electrical contact between metal surfaces that can withstand certain mechanical stresses. For effective soldering, it is not enough to simply heat one surface with tin and attach to another surface; a prerequisite for reliable contact is the equality of the temperatures of the parts to be soldered. And it is possible to achieve high-quality soldering only by using the right tool, one of which is a soldering station.

It is necessary

  • - Soldering Station;
  • - flux;
  • - solder;
  • - nippers;
  • - pliers;
  • - tweezers;
  • - knife.

Instructions

Step 1

Understand the advantages of a soldering station over a conventional soldering iron. The station has an adjustable heating range, which minimizes the risk of burning the components to be soldered. There is a function of maintaining a constant temperature of the tip, which thereby protects it from burnout, as a result, the cost of consumables is reduced. Another distinctive feature of the soldering station is the presence of a stand and a bath for a cleaning sponge. Prices for good soldering stations start at around 800 rubles, but this cost is more than offset by the described advantages.

Step 2

When choosing a soldering station, focus primarily on the power of the soldering iron. For soldering printed circuit boards, a power of 25-40 watts is sufficient. If you need to solder wires with a cross section of several millimeters, then, of course, 100 W will not be enough. The choice depends on the work for which you are using the soldering station.

Step 3

Before proceeding with soldering, also determine the supply voltage. If you use the standard voltage for Russia (220 V, 50 Hz), use a station with the appropriate parameters. For soldering in a car or places where the electrical network is not available, use devices with a power supply of 12-24 V.

Step 4

Before you start soldering, select the shape of the soldering iron tip. This parameter is of decisive importance when soldering printed circuit boards. Today, a wide range of tips is offered for soldering stations: in the form of blades, cones, needles, and so on. It is desirable to be able to choose in order to determine by experience which shapes and sizes of the tip are more suitable for different types of soldering.

Step 5

Having prepared the soldering equipment, acquire consumables. You will need an oxide removal flux and solder. When choosing a flux, do not limit yourself to traditional rosin, in the modern market you can choose a wide range of fluxes that can be washed off with ordinary water, do not destroy the tip of the soldering iron and give high quality soldering. It is best if you use the flux in a syringe-like package, it is convenient for soldering.

Step 6

Use 1-5 mm solder wire for soldering. Today, multi-channel solders are widespread, when a number of flux channels are located inside the tin wire, which ensures high quality soldering.

Step 7

Use a tip activator when soldering. It is necessary to extend the service life of the soldering station. Before each soldering and after finishing work, lower the tip into a jar with activator. In this case, a protective coating forms on the tip, which protects the tool from carbon deposits.

Step 8

Have a hand tool on hand, without which soldering can be difficult: a sharp knife, wire cutters, pliers, tweezers. Install the lighting correctly: the light should fall so that the hand with the soldering iron does not cover the soldering point.

Step 9

The general technology for the production of soldering using a soldering station does not differ from working with a conventional soldering iron. Much depends on the specific conditions, the nature and size of the components to be connected. A significant difference is that working with a soldering station provides greater comfort, high work efficiency and a corresponding quality of soldering.
