Stained glass paints allow you to turn an ordinary plate or candlestick into a real masterpiece. You don't have to be an artist to paint glass. Knowledge of some paint application skills is required.
It is necessary
- - printed drawing;
- - stained glass paints;
- - contour.
Instructions
Step 1
Stained glass paints on glass differ from other types in that they are liquid, like ink, transparent, let in sunlight and easily tolerate the effects of water, which is especially important when painting dishes and window glasses. However, due to the consistency of the paints, they are more difficult to apply than conventional acrylic paints.
Step 2
Before applying paint, carefully inspect the glass to make sure it is not scratched. If paint gets inside the defects, they will become very noticeable. Clean the surface to be painted from dust and dirt. To do this, use warm water with ammonia diluted in it, or use a mild dishwashing detergent. After cleaning the glass, wipe it with a dry cloth.
Step 3
Place the pre-printed design under the glass and transfer it to the surface using special outlines that will prevent the paint from spreading and make the painting look like a real stained glass window. It is best to use a black, gold or silver outline. Wait for the paint to dry before proceeding to the next stage of work.
Step 4
There are two types of stained glass paints. Some of them are poured from a jar directly onto the glass, others are applied with a brush. If you are using the first type of paints, make sure that bubbles do not form on the stained glass. It should be applied through one element so that you do not accidentally smear the wet segment. After part of the stained-glass window is dry, proceed to painting the remaining elements.
Step 5
There are fired stained glass paints - they are baked in an oven, which is not always convenient, as well as paints that do not require firing. They are most often used by amateurs. Information about the need for processing should be written on the package. Different types of paints dry at different times, but the product should be left to dry in a clean room so that dust does not adhere to the stained glass window.
