How nice it is to have things made with your own hands in your house or apartment. And how good it is that the art of "amateur performance" or hand-made, as they say now, has not gone out of fashion for several years now. Incredibly, in one evening you can make a very comfortable corner shelf with three or four shelves. Agree, in any house there is a corner into which such a homemade bookcase will fit perfectly. So, get ready to amaze your friends and acquaintances with a new trendy item.
It is necessary
- - several sheets of plywood with a thickness of 6 mm, - a pencil for marking lines,
- - a tool for cutting,
- - sandpaper for sanding the edges of the shelves,
- - PVA glue,
- - screws.
Instructions
Step 1
Measure the value of the corner of the room where the shelf will be installed. From these measurements, make a shelf template on a sheet of plywood. Mark a right angle, from the vertex of which draw an arc in a quarter circle with a radius of 230 mm. Next, adjust the measurements based on the measurements of the wall.
Step 2
On one side of the future shelf, mark the grooves for the rack. Then saw off the sides. According to these measurements, the rest of the shelves will be "cut". Turn the template over and mark the grooves on the other side.
Step 3
Make the second shelf after the first one. Trace the template with a pencil and cut the shelf along the contour with an allowance for the thickness of the marking line. The front side can be curved or straight, but be sure to sand it down.
Step 4
Having made the shelves, start making upright racks. If the shelf consists of three shelves, then the length of the rack will be 585 mm. Select the front side and mark it.
Step 5
On the uprights, mark the position of the shelves, then sand both the uprights and the shelves. Then mark the screw holes on the uprights.
Step 6
If the front side of the shelves is rounded, use a 6mm hand router to cut that side in the same way as the front side of the uprights. Be careful: clamp the workpieces securely and take a stable position. Sand the finished edges additionally with sandpaper.
Step 7
Proceed with adjusting the uprights to the grooves marked on the shelves, for this you need a circular saw. Fold the middle shelves together for more convenience. After making a groove over several fits, attach the stand and make the final fit. Finish the grooves with a chisel if necessary.
Step 8
Now start assembling: the racks need to be adjusted to the middle shelf, gradually moving on to the remaining shelves. Do not use glue at this stage, stick to screws. Use 50 mm screws to secure the first and last shelf. Check the entire unit for stability and correct assembly. Make the fit.
Step 9
Then disassemble the entire structure and apply a thin layer of PVA glue in the center of each groove. Now tighten the screws and place the shelf upright.
Step 10
When the glue is dry, remove the remnants with a chisel or other handy tool.
Step 11
Finally, apply several coats of varnish, and after the last coat has dried, polish the surface with a soft cloth.
