Step 1
In order to correctly calculate the number of loops for, you need to knit a small sample. To make it, be sure to select a fragment of the main pattern, so this is what will ultimately determine the correct set of loops. A prerequisite for making a sample is the use of exactly the recommended yarn and knitting needles, which will be used for basic knitting.
Step 2
For example, the main pattern consists of 20 loops + 4 loops for the gap between them, therefore, dial 24 loops on the knitting needles and knit at least 20 rows with a pattern. If the pattern is higher, then focus on the number of rows in the pattern. Finish the row.
Step 3
Wash the swatch with a suitable product for the yarn. Blot with a towel and leave to dry flat. After complete drying, you can calculate the number of loops. To do this, measure the width of the sample, which is, say, 12 cm.
Step 4
Next, make up the proportion: 12 cm is 24 loops, therefore, 48 cm (for example, the volume of the doll's head) will be 96 loops. So to knit a hat for a doll, you need to dial 96 loops.
Step 5
It is also necessary to take into account that the main pattern can be more "stretched" in comparison with the elastic with the same number of loops. That is, fewer of them may be needed to knit elastic. Therefore, on the same product, it is necessary for each type of pattern to additionally calculate the number of loops on the knitting needles, and then evenly add or decrease the number of loops.
