Prolonged use of the guitar leads to the fact that its surface over time does not look so beautiful and shiny. In this case, you can update it by self-repainting. The main thing in such a matter is perseverance and accuracy.
It is necessary
- - screwdriver;
- - sander and sandpaper;
- - putty;
- - paint;
- - a gun for airbrushing or a can of paint;
- - masking tape;
- - colorless alkyd varnish.
Instructions
Step 1
Disassemble the guitar. You only need to remove those parts that are bolted and not glued. On a classical guitar, remove only the strings. On an electric guitar, in addition to strings, unscrew the iron fittings and the neck, if it is bolted to the soundboard. Move all parts away so as not to lose them during painting.
Step 2
Cover the fingerboard with masking tape. This is necessary in order not to damage the fret sills with paint. Only the outside of the neck can be painted.
Step 3
Remove old paint and varnish from the tool. To do this, it is best to use a special grinder, but you can also use sandpaper, although you will have to spend much more time. At the end of the work, remove all dust with a damp cloth, and then let the product dry.
Step 4
If your guitar has dents, prime them with adhesive primer by applying it with a small roller. Fill cracks and staples with alkyd or polyester filler. Then let it dry and sand the surface of the tool. Repeat the filler and sanding procedure one more time. After use, collect all dust again with a damp cloth and dry the instrument thoroughly.
Step 5
Start painting. You cannot paint the surface of the guitar with a brush or roller, as they will leave marks on it anyway. It is best to use a special airbrush gun, but a can of paint will do. Cover the floor and nearby furniture with newspaper or sheeting. Apply the paint in an even, drip-free layer and let it dry completely. The distance between the spray can and the surface of the guitar during painting should be at least 10 cm.
Step 6
Cover the product with a colorless alkyd varnish in several layers. Each coat must dry completely before applying the next one. After the paint has dried, carefully reassemble the guitar and try the updated instrument in action.
