Decoupage is a decorative technique that allows you to decorate various items as if they were hand-painted. Ready-made crafts are suitable for home decoration and as souvenirs for friends. When drawing pictures on a glass surface, there are subtleties.
Preparation of materials
To decorate a transparent plate using the reverse decoupage technique, place it in front of you on a table covered with oilcloth or something else to protect the surface of the furniture. Thoroughly wipe the outside of the plate with glass cleaner or alcohol. This is necessary to degrease and remove dirt.
If you suddenly leave a fingerprint on the glass surface, immediately remove it with a cotton ball and alcohol. Otherwise, the dirt will be perfectly visible on the outside of the plate.
Prepare a napkin motif. Cut out the picture with scissors. When pulling out the motif with your hands and gluing it to the glass using the reverse decoupage technique, an uneven edge may be visible from the front side. Divide the napkin into separate layers, leaving only the color for decoration - you won't need the rest.
Reverse decoupage of a plate
Place the picture face down on the back of the plate. For gluing, you can use PVA glue, diluting it to a liquid state, or fix the work immediately with acrylic varnish. Using a soft flute brush, apply the adhesive over the motif, while aligning the picture in its intended place. Smooth out all folds and bumps from the center to the edges, expelling air bubbles and excess glue or varnish.
Remove all PVA glue or acrylic varnish that has protruded from the edges of the picture with cotton swabs or discs so that no stains remain. Apply white acrylic paint or acrylic primer to brighten the pasted design.
Finishing plate decoration
To give the work a finished look, cover the edges of the plate with patterns. Attach the pattern template to the inside of the crockery to be decorated. Use a glass path. You can draw solid lines that repeat the pattern, or make it separate small dots. It all depends on your desire and skill.
When the outline drawing is completely dry, blot the entire patterned background with a piece of foam rubber, which you dip into acrylic paint for glass work. Dry and cover the entire back of the plate with acrylic varnish in several layers, making sure to give everyone time to dry.
If you are thinking of using the plate for its intended purpose, cover it with a special glass varnish. Then the dishes must be placed in the oven and kept at a certain temperature. These data are written on the varnish label.
The finished plate can be washed with water and a sponge without abrasive substances.
